Following the HEAL Blueprint for Managing and Sharing Data
The NIH HEAL Initiative Public Access and Data Sharing policy requires funded investigators to create a Public Access and Data Sharing plan describing how they intend to handle release of publications and sharing underlying primary data. As data sharing and access becomes increasingly important to accelerating science, the NIH HEAL Initiative and the Data Stewardship Group are providing new resources and guidance for these plans. These materials will also help investigators meet requirements for data sharing policies beyond the HEAL Initiative.

In this webinar, Kira Bradford of the HEAL Data Stewardship Group will highlight valuable resources, provide guidance on crafting a strong Public Access and Data Sharing Plan, and discuss how having this plan can benefit researchers and exponentially increase research data value. Afterward, Bradford will host a conversation with two HEAL Investigators who have extensive experience in creating plans to learn more about the value these plans have in informing their research work.

Kira Bradford
Technical and Research Scientist @Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI)
Kira Bradford, PhD, is a Senior Technical and Research Scientist at the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) working at the intersection between cloud-based cyberinfrastructure development and scientific research. Bradford is co-PI for the NIH HEAL Data Stewardship Group and for the RENCI team on the NHLBI BioData Catalyst project. Her team science background combined with her professional and research experiences provide a foundation for her work as a leader in multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional projects that accelerate research by enabling access to computational cloud-based resources.
Janel Fedler
Director of Biostatistics and Data Sharing @Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC) at the University of Iowa
Janel Fedler, PhD, received her doctorate in Biostatistics from the University of Iowa in 2017 and is currently the Director of Biostatistics and Data Sharing at the Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC) at the University of Iowa. As part of this role, Dr. Fedler provides oversight of the sharing of data for all ongoing studies at the CTSDMC where she has coordinated the sharing of several datasets. She specializes in all aspects of clinical studies from the design, data management, analysis, and data sharing and has served as a biostatistician for a number of clinical studies.
Stephen Johnson
Professor @Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health
Stephen Johnson, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health. His research involves designing and evaluating information systems in patient care, clinical research and basic research. Important applications of this work include development of information systems to support data management, sharing and discovery, and the use of natural language processing to extract information from unstructured biomedical texts to support data analysis and decision making.
